Case Keenum, QB

Published: Thursday, April 3, 2025 10:25 PM
Player News:

Keenum signed a one-year contract with the Bears worth up to $3 million with the Bears on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Analysis:

Keenum missed all of the 2024 season with a foot injury while with the Texans. He's likely to be the third-string quarterback with the Bears, though he will add a veteran presence to an otherwise young positional group led by Caleb Williams.

Miles Boykin, WR

Published: Thursday, April 3, 2025 7:42 PM
Player News:

Boykin signed with the Bears on Thursday.

Analysis:

Boykin bounced between a few practice squads in 2024 and failed to appear in a game for the season since he was drafted in 2019. If he does crack the Bears' roster in 2025, it will almost certainly be as a special teams contributor.

Trey McBride, TE

Published: Thursday, April 3, 2025 4:46 PM
Player News:

McBride agreed to a four-year contract extension with the Cardinals on Thursday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.

Analysis:

McBride is thus under contract with Arizona through the 2029 season. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the 25 year-old's $76 million deal includes $43 million guaranteed and a average annual value of $19 million, the highest ever for any NFL tight end. This past season, the 2022 second-rounder caught a career-high 111 passes on 147 targets for 1,146 yards and two TDs in 16 regular-season contests, a level of production that makes him an elite fantasy option at his position ahead of the upcoming NFL campaign.

Geno Smith, QB

Published: Thursday, April 3, 2025 3:09 PM
Player News:

The Raiders and Smith agreed to a two-year extension Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Analysis:

Upon getting dealt from Seattle to Las Vegas on March 7, Smith still had one year remaining on his existing contract, but the Raiders have made a new commitment to the quarterback, with Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reporting the deal is worth $85.5 million, with $66.5 million guaranteed. The 34-year-old thus can be expected to be a Raider beyond the 2025 campaign after averaging 249.5 yards per game and compiling a 71:35 TD:INT over 49 starts the previous three seasons.

Joe Milton, QB

Published: Thursday, April 3, 2025 10:19 AM
Player News:

The Cowboys acquired Milton and a 2025 seventh-round pick from the Patriots on Thursday in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.

Analysis:

A 2024 sixth-round pick, Milton spent most of his rookie season behind Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye on the depth chart but got the chance to play extended action against the Bills in Week 18, when he completed 22 of 29 pass attempts for 241 yards and a touchdown to go with 16 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. After the Patriots let Brissett walk in free agency before bringing in a more experienced backup option in Joshua Dobbs to serve as Maye's backup in 2025, Milton was sent to Dallas, where he'll serve as the No. 2 quarterback behind Dak Prescott (hamstring).

Antoine Winfield, S

Published: Wednesday, April 2, 2025 7:30 PM
Player News:

Winfield agreed to a restructured contract Wednesday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.

Analysis:

Winfield converted the vast majority of his $21 million salary into a signing bonus, creating more than $15.8 million in cap space for the Bucs. Winfield appeared in just nine regular-season games last season due to injuries, finishing with 60 tackles (34 solo), including 2.0 sacks, three pass breakups and one fumble recovery, which he returned for a 58-yard touchdown. Winfield is under contract through 2027.

Tutu Atwell, WR

Published: Wednesday, April 2, 2025 7:26 PM
Player News:

Rams coach Sean McVay indicated that Atwell is going to be on the field "a lot more" this upcoming season after re-signing with Los Angeles on a one-year, $10 million contract in March, Stu Jackson of the team's official website reports.

Analysis:

"I haven't done a good enough job of utilizing him," McVay said. "When you look at the times when he's been able to play, whether that be because some people were out or not, he has produced and he's delivered, and we're looking forward to seeing more of that ascension. He's going to be on the field a lot more, particularly in a lot of those three-receiver sets." With the ouster of Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Robinson's exit in free agency coupled with the signing of Davante Adams, the Rams are expected to field a three-wide set of Puka Nacua, Adams and Atwell in 2025. As McVay noted, Atwell was particularly impressive on a per-snap basis last season, posting a strong 2.24 yards-per-route-run number. He'll be worth following this summer ahead of fantasy drafts as a potential late-round option.

Mike Evans, WR

Published: Wednesday, April 2, 2025 3:45 PM
Player News:

Evans agreed Wednesday to restructure his contract, converting part of his base salary into a bonus, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Analysis:

Evans' restructured deal will allow Tampa Bay greater room to maneuver as the team continues to work through free agency and prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft. Coming off his 11th consecutive 1,000-yard season, and with teammate Chris Godwin (knee - ACL) having re-signed with the Buccaneers, Evans is primed to run things back with quarterback Baker Mayfield in a familiar -- and ideal -- situation. Evans will turn 32 less than a month before the 2025 regular season kicks off, in what will be a contract year. He's yet to show any signs of slowing down and remains positioned as Mayfield's go-to receiving option, though former offensive coordinator Liam Cohen's departure to take on the Jaguars' head coaching position is notable. Replacing Cohen via the internal promotion of last year's pass-game coordinator, Josh Grizzard, still gives the Buccaneers' offense some amount of continuity at even the coordinator spot.

Sam Ehlinger, QB

Published: Wednesday, April 2, 2025 1:13 PM
Player News:

The Broncos signed Ehlinger to a one-year contract Wednesday, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports.

Analysis:

Ehlinger, who spent the first four years of his NFL career in Indianapolis, didn't see action in a single game in 2024, though he did operate as the team's emergency third quarterback on multiple occasions. He'll now compete to carve out a reserve role behind Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham in Denver.

Jake Moody, K

Published: Wednesday, April 2, 2025 12:41 PM
Player News:

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday that the 49ers intend to bring in a veteran kicker "who's capable of taking that job" to compete with Moody this offseason, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Analysis:

Shanahan communicated a belief that competition could bring out the best in Moody going forward, saying "if he can overcome that, and beat out a capable guy, that'll show us he's ready for the season." A 2023 third-round pick, Moody's struggles in 2024 can be attributed in part to a high-ankle sprain, which forced him to miss three contests and could have continued to impact his performance upon return to the field. He converted just 71 percent of his field goals across 14 regular-season appearances, and made only four of nine field-goal attempts from 50+ yards out.
